Streszczenie w języku polskim


Celem artykułu jest próba zlokalizowania oraz odtworzenia zakresu prac inżynieryjnych podjętych w czasach cesarza Dioklecjana (285–305 n.e.) i Konstancjusza II (337–361 n.e.) w porcie morskim w Seleucji Pierii w Syrii. W związku z tym tekst ma także na celu określenie stanu infrastruktury portowej oraz użyteczności portu w Seleucji w IV stuleciu n.e. W artykule zostały przeanalizowane różne źródła antyczne i bizantyńskie, przy czym kluczowe znaczenie miały teksty retora Libaniusza, głównie Mowa XI („Na cześć Antiochii”) i Mowa XX („Do cesarza Teodozjusza. Na pojednanie”), a także wybrane listy Libaniusza i ćwiczenia retoryczne. Artykuł omawia także różne hipotezy i teorie autorów współczesnych, dając w ten sposób przegląd dotychczasowego stanu wiedzy i określając perspektywy badawcze.
